5 Tips for Efficiently Cooling Your Home

When the summer heat ramps up, you may look for ways to cool your home without overworking your air conditioning. Fagnan’s Furnace Service has been in the HVAC industry for over 40 years, and we know our air conditioners!

Here are five tips to help you cool your home more efficiently:

1. Invest in regular HVAC maintenance

Biannual or annual maintenance on your HVAC system will help keep it operating at its best. You want to keep your equipment in good condition. Otherwise, your system will incur damage over time and no longer work at its capacity. This will lead to lower efficiency. And, in turn, lead to higher energy bills.

2. Seal your windows and doors

Your window and door seals help create a barrier that blocks outside temperatures from entering your home. An airtight home helps your HVAC system easily keep your home at a consistent, cool temperature. If hot air leaks through windows and doors, it will force your HVAC system to work harder. New weatherstripping and caulking can be the answer.

3. Use natural ventilation whenever possible

Outside of a summer heat wave in Alberta, it’s still possible to turn your air conditioning off at night and open the windows to receive some cool night air. When you do this, it increases your home’s ventilation, reduces the temperature of your home, and gives your HVAC system a break. Then, when you turn your air conditioning back on the next day, it will be easier to cool your home and take less time to do so. You’ll also save on your energy bills!

4. Use your ceiling fans

While it’s true that fans don’t actually create cold air, they do move the air around, helping with air circulation and making people feel cooler. As a result, you’ll be able to use your air conditioning less. Switching your ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise helps with this even more.

5. Upgrade inefficient air-conditioners that are aging out

There have been many big improvements to air conditioning technology in recent years. If your old air conditioner has hit the 10-15 year mark, it’s probably not performing how a modern air conditioner can. One of the best ways to cool your home efficiently and reduce energy usage and energy bills is to upgrade your aging air conditioner to a newer model.

Fagnan’s Furnace Service supplies a wide variety of modern air conditioners that will bring a new level of energy efficiency to your home. We’re also a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and carry their most efficient air conditioning models.
